Sustainable consumption and production (SCP) plays an important role in the sustainable development of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh towards achieving their goal of becoming a middle-income country. The building sector is one of the most important sectors both in terms of economic contribution and potential for improvement on SCP. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), who together with the and the Inter-Ministerial Committee on SDG Implementation, coordinate the monitoring and implementation progress towards the achievement of the SDGs in Bangladesh and play a leading role in the country’s shift towards SCP. The meeting will therefore provide guidance to the MoEFCC and other key players for integrating SCP implementation into the building and housing sectors by providing analysis, capacity building, and strengthening of networks on green building and housing in Bangladesh.
The overall aim of the meeting is to raise awareness of all stakeholders on green buildings and policy options, and to enhance the understanding of the current status, gaps, constraints and opportunities on GB policy adoption. The meeting will highlight the importance of assessing the challenges in the implementation of green buildings in Bangladesh so far, and bring stakeholders together to gain further insights for the Action Plan by incorporating additional potential SCP principles.
