This report explores the green finance ecosystem in the Maldives, where tourism is the backbone of the economy and environmental pressures are particularly high. It examines tourism trends, energy and waste management challenges, and the availability of green finance schemes for tourism MSMEs. The report highlights the role of national financial institutions, utility-led programmes, and SME financing mechanisms in supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy investments. PROMISE project interventions, including green finance workshops and one-to-one MSME sensitisation across islands, are documented in detail. Key challenges related to geography, awareness, and institutional capacity are analysed. The report concludes with lessons learned and actionable recommendations for strengthening green finance in small island tourism economies.
