Circularity in the Building Sector in Mongolia
Year: 2026
Language: English
Country: Mongolia

The report is part of a broader SWITCH-Asia Technical Advisory (TA) project aimed at strengthening SCP and circularity in the building and construction sector across multiple countries. The publication aims to inform stakeholders of introducing circular and sustainable construction practices in Mongolia. Its primary purpose is to synthesize findings and insights from various reports, documents, and stakeholder discussions, to assess the current status of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and circular economy principles, and provide actionable approaches for the Mongolian construction sector. The report addresses the integration of circular economy principles across three key stages of the building lifecycle: materials (structural and operational); construction (and refurbishment) works; and deconstruction and demolition. It aims to provide information for the Mongolian government and other key stakeholders to develop and implement policies and strategies that align with both national socio-economic development goals and international environmental commitments, including decarbonizing the sector and contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.
