The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic is working to implement the principles of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and green economy in accordance with the National Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2018-2040, National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026, Green Economy Development Program in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2019-2023 and other strategic documents.
This publication first introduces the topic of SCP, its relationship to environmental and other policy documents and higher-level goals, as well as the many SCP tools and measures that can help identify practical actions to improve resource efficiency, reduce waste, replace potentially harmful resources with safer ones, and reuse and recycle end-of-life products. Then, it provides an overview of existing policies related to SCP and circular economy in the Kyrgyz agribusiness, also mapping organic products using international experience with the provision of several lines of domestic products. Finally, guidelines are provided for the greening of the supply chain of agro-food products to increase the production and consumption of organic products in Kyrgyzstan.
