“Demystifying EPR-A Key Enabler for Circular Economy” is a webinar series that intends to create awareness on India's current position, key challenges and explore innovative solutions on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) with the hope of synchronizing Industry-Government efforts to enable a circular economy. The focus is to highlight ground realities w.r.t compliance and decode the impact of latest amendments in the rules. Ep 01 of this series was piloted on 22nd April and the discussion anchored around the need for enhancing digitalization in waste management. On 18th May 2022, we will be airing Episode 02 of this series and it is focussed on “Capacity Building of Stakeholders to enable a Circular Economy.”
One of the biggest challenges to any transition is the inertia and our journey to enable circular economy is no different. Although India has enacted legal frameworks & policies to manage e-waste, plastic waste, batteries etc., a major chunk of these wastes are still being processed by the informal sector. Moreover, EPR can work well, only if all stakeholders in the value chain act, hold accountability and develop required skills. From policymakers, producers, bulk generators to individuals, everyone has a role to play to amplify India’s transition into a circular economy. This episode will facilitate a discussion to seek solutions & address gaps within the present infrastructure. Be it the humans involved, or the systems used, we all need an upgrade in our software.
