Sustainable Production (SP) of the Biomass Industries in Malaysia: Optimising Economic Potential and Moving Towards Higher Value Chain

In a nutshell

The industrial use of biomass as fuel to substitute the use of fossil fuels such as coal and oil offers one of the largest opportunities to introduce renewable energy in Malaysia. Malaysia produces minimum 168 million tons of biomass every year, but its commercial potential has not yet been fully explored. Although this could decrease pollution caused through out-dated and resource inefficient production technologies, SMEs have limited resources to invest in environmental improvements. Therefore it is important to support the development of less polluting and more resource efficient biomass products, processes and technologies among biomass SMEs.
