Brief Description

The overall objective of the action is to contribute to economic prosperity, poverty reduction and climate change mitigation in Bhutan by promoting sustainable tourism development. The specific objective is to promote sustainable production and consumption practices across the tourism value chain of Bhutan coupled with sustainable livelihood development.

 

The project's target groups are:

  •  More than 400 registered tour operators (TOs)
  • More than 100 registered hotels and guest houses (including rural facilities)
  • Registered tour guides (including rural communities)
  • Restaurants
  • Enterprises/cottage industries providing crafts, agri produce & trade supplies to the tourism sector, focusing on rural & disadvantaged groups
  • Staff from key agencies including Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), Ministry of Economic
  • Affairs (MoEA), Nature Recreation Eco-Tourism Division (NRED) Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Forestry (DOF), National Environment Commission (NEC), Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Hotel Tourism and Management Training Institute
  • (HTMTI),
  • Selected companies/entities providing environment services, environmental technologies & construction services
  • Selected financial service organisations

Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO)
is the lead applicant for this project and the principal industry representative in Tourism Council of Bhutan. ABTO is responsible for the overall project activities.
Megaskills Research Company Limited
Megaskills Research Company Limited
has significant international experience in the EU and Asia. Megaskills Research will provide international expertise in key areas, training of trainers, development of reference materials, communication strategy, design of baseline survey and ICT systems.
Hotel Association of Bhutan (HAB)
Hotel Association of Bhutan (HAB)
has national level experience for ensuring standards in touristic hotels considering environmental aspect into accounts for promotion and sustainability. HAB's role in the project is to establish network between hoteliers and communities for production and consumption of green products to minimise environmental impact.
Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB)
Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB)
is a project partner and has been actively involved in developing of curriculum for guide training. GAB is involved in the implementation of sustainable consumption practises and dissemination of such information to the target groups such as guides, tourists, shops and local communities.
