Brief Description

The overall objective of the action is to improve sustainable production of SMEs in the Thai auto and automotive parts supply chains

 

Specific objectives are:

  • To improve productivity and environmental performance of Thai auto and automotive parts production.
  • To enhance networks, business and financial services for greening of the Thai auto and
    automotive parts industry.
  • To disseminate good practices and promote the development and implementation of related policy and economic instruments.

 

Expected results:

  • Productivity and quality of products of at least 250 SMEs have increased, while environmental impacts per production unit have been reduced.
  • Number of SMEs complying with international environmental regulations has increased.
  • New financial packages for SMEs to invest in improvement measures are widely used in the market.
  • Alliances and networks for greening the supply chain of Thai automotive industry have improved.
  • Good practices and related policies have been promoted

Projects kicks off with planning workshop

April 2012

The SWITCH-Asia Project Greening Supply Chains in the Thai Auto and Automotive Parts Industries organises a planning meeting in May 2012 in Pattaya, Chonburi with project partners GIZ, TAI, SMEs Bank, FTI and CSCP.

The 3-year project has officially started on 01 February 2012. With the planning workshop the project seeks to gain an overview in the Thai Auto and Automotive Parts Industries and to provide a common understanding about the project. Project partner aim to elaborate and agree on project activities and to identify fields of cooperation among relevant stakeholders. Next to planning exercises, the agenda of the workshop include technical inputs such as presentation covering sustainable production tools. The project team will also discuss existing financial packages for SMEs and existing policies relevant to the Auto and Automotive sub-sector.

The overall project’s objective is to improve the sustainable production of the Thai auto and automotive parts supply chain. The target group is SMEs in automotive parts production in Tier 2 and 3.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ),
GIZ is a federally owned organization working worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. As lead applicant, GIZ provides advisory services for proven approaches and tools used in on-going and former projects in the same and similar sectors. GIZ will be responsible for the overall project management, incl. monitoring and evaluation.
TAI
TAI's role is to provide services on quality assurance of products and production systems and to support the project in providing access to main target groups of tier 2 and 3 and in involving multinational companies in the project.
Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP)
Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP)
CSCP is the Think-and-Do-Tank explicitly working on SCP. It has extensive experience in SCP related research, monitoring and dissemination of SCP and capacity building, both internationally and in China. CSCP's role is to provide methodological, technical and policy advice based on good practices globally to the action – especially in the phases of developing materials and defining effective communication mechanisms, and further to implement effectively training and multi-stakeholder processes.
FTI
The role of FTI is support the action in providing access to 12 related industrial groups (clubs) under FTI, to reflect lessons learned (e.g. from past green production centres), to develop policy recommendation to government agencies, and to establish networking among various target groups. 
SME Bank
The SME Bank's role is to develop and implement innovative financial packages and make them available.
