The SWITCH-Asia Programme includes a Policy Support Component which targets national and regional policy frameworks and their potential to encourage the uptake of SCP practices. The component therefore contributes to green growth, poverty reduction, and the fulfilment of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). The component is being launched in 2011 and works with national authorities to initiate or strengthen policies for mainstreaming SCP in regional, sub-regional and national development programmes.
The Regional Policy Compoment works with various stakeholders including government, private sector, and civil society to support them in the design and implementation of policy-oriented activities which support a shift towards SCP. The component addresses all countries eligible under the SWITCH-Asia Programme. Regionally coordinated activities focus primarily on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, lao PDR, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. It is intended that policy support activities will lead to the creation of national action plans.
