ASIA-EUROPE ENVIRONMENT FORUM

2010 Conference in Munich

The significance of regional and multilateral initiatives, both within the political community as well as among civil society organisations, will also be discussed. Moreover, the conference aims to incentivise countries in the two regions to intensify policy dialogue across regional and national levels.

The event seeks to kick-start a process in which Asia and Europe constitute a critical mass in determining sustainable pathways to a shared future. It aims to feed into two international meetings that are signposts for an Asia-Europe voice, namely, the 8th ASEM Summit that will be held in Brussels, Belgium on 4th – 5th October 2010 and the Earth Summit 2012, a global meeting that will follow the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The conference will be organised as a three-day conference involving around 100 ASEM nationals who are experts in the different areas of sustainability, development and the environment in Asia and Europe. They will be representatives of government, civil society and international organisations. Approximately 10 different workshops with about 20 participants each will provide space for in-depth discussion of various aspects and implications of scarce resources in present

and future settings.
