Sustainable production through market penetration of closed loop technologies in the metal finishing industry

The overall objectives of the project are (a) improved urban environmental quality in the urban regions of the project, (b) improved living conditions in the target regions, and (c) improved production technologies. The cities where the project is implemented are Delhi NCR, Chandigarh and Mohali, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Pune and Chennai.

Specifically the 4-year action has started deploying technology innovation as well as resource efficiency in the metal finishing companies (SMEs) that is already leading to improved environmental quality and lower pollution through advanced water treatment measures and energy efficient processes.

The project will also contribute to:

  • Enhance Innovation: Implementation of technology innovation and resource efficiency by enhancing the rate and scale of innovation by Indian companies.
  • Enhance Competitiveness: Sustainable Production in the metal finishing industry will help to reduce risks and reduce costs, to increase options, to gain customers and to propel the company towards global competitiveness.

is an industry body representing 38 leading vehicle and vehicular engine manufacturers in India and works closely with all the concerned stakeholders to actively formulate rules, regulations and policies related to the automotive industry. SIAM was responsible for establishing linkages to customers from the automotive sector of the metal nishing companies

This final project publication provides information about the project's economic, environmental and social impacts, it's target groups and policy development. The project finished in January 2016 and supported SMEs in reducing their resource use by up to 33%.
