"We have reached a point of no return"

October 13, 2010
With these strong words, Ioannis Kavvadas, from the EC Delegation to China and Mongolia, described the current situation after the economic crisis. In his welcome address at the SWITCH-Asia Networking event he underlined: “Our standards of living can only be maintained if we deeply reflect on our products' life cycles: how to design, produce, transport, purchase and use them as well as how to discard or recycle them in a sustainable way”.

Therefore, he concluded that the commitment of the EU towards Sustainable Consumption and Production is growing every day.

Mrs. Guo Dongmei, expert from the China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Centre, shared Mr. Kavvadas’s interest in SCP and  Green Economy. She feels “the Earth and the human need the green economy” and was thrilled to meet many SCP practitioners from across Asia.

Thomas Wiley from EuropeAID, Directorae D2, stated that the SWITCH Asia Programme announced a new grant for proposal to be launched in November this year to continue EC commitment to promote SCP in Asia.
