Designing for Sustainability
Improving the environmental impact of the products we consume begins long time before we start extracting raw materials and processing these. The environmental impact is already being defined when we start designing our products. How do we design the quality or the functionality ? What are the production needs? And most importantly what resources are needed to manufacture a product? Sustainable design is aiming to increase the quality, expand the product life cycle, keep the production costs low, and reduce the input of resources and energy and output of wastes.
SWITCH-Asia projects aiming at “Designing for Sustainability” are working to reduce the environmental impact of products and at the same time increase the competitiveness of the companies concerned.
