Background

The First SWITCH-Asia Networking Meeting was held on 3-5 June, 2009, in Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia.  The participants included representatives of the SWITCH-Asia funded projects, SWITCH-Asia Network Facility project partners, officials from the European Commission, and Asian government officials.

The Networking Meeting was organized as a two-and-a-half-day workshop, which offered an opportunity for its project beneficiaries, EC Delegations, and other relevant stakeholders to address common issues in project implementation, and to share experiences and best practices on how to advance Sustainable Production on Consumption (SCP) in Asia. The event was highly interactive and resulted in a number of concrete outputs and recommendations, which will be used to enhance the anticipated impact of the SWTCH-Asia programme.

The specific objectives of the First Networking Meeting aimed to develop a common vision on how to enhance projects' and the Programme's impact, and establishing effective networking and cross learning mechanisms. The following are some of the meeting outcomes:

  •  A set of impact indicators at the project and the Programme level;
  •  A project synergy web outlining links and potential synergies among projects;
  •  A list of needs and knowledge gaps with recommendations for the SWITCH-Asia Network facility for developing common tools/support infrastructure;
  •  A list of recommendations and opportunities for the projects and network facility to improve the regional impact of SWITCH-Asia;
  •  A Q&A section regarding project management and concerns of project implementation
