The Asia Pacfic Round Table on SCP is a forum of practitioners and, to some extent, policy-makers working in the field of environmental development, mainly with a focus on innovation of sustainable consumption and production patterns. This year, at the 10th APRSCP, SWITCH-Asia takes a prominent part - hosting 4 events and speaking at the opening event. (Please click here for the presentation).
Developing Asian countries will comprise about 43 percent of worldwide consumption by 2030. Without addressing consumption, sustainable products and services can’t be mainstreamed. In our first session, we will work on getting a clear picture of tomorrow’s most important consumer groups. We will do this by profiling personas of urban middle class consumers, low-income people, public procurers and corporate purchasers. Our speakers having an insight into the decision-making behaviour of these consumers will elaborate on factors motivating and preventing them to purchase and consume sustainably. Through moderated table discussions, further input from the participants will be collected. A visual artist will harvest the discussions and gather the profiles of consumer group personas including the relevant motivators and barriers on a big wall graphic.
The workshop is hosted in collaboration with IGES and Consumers International.
Date: Thur. | November 10th 2011 | 13:30 – 15:30
Location: Room Mataram 1
Based on the profiling of consumer group personas completed and challenging and encouraging factors identified in the morning session, we will look into solutions in response. Our speakers will explain the strategies and tactics they have developed targeting a particular consumer group in order to break the barriers and to leverage the motivators. They will share their lessons learned. Following facilitated table discussions will allow collection of more promising cases from the participants. Similar to the first session, the box of solutions for mainstreaming sustainable products will be illustrated on the wall by a graphic artist.

SMEs constitute the backbone of Asia’s production, and are important players to address when dealing with industrial pollution and resource efficiency. Therefore, SMEs need better access to favourable financing of cleaner and more efficient production systems to reduce their environmental impact.
• How can we overcome the challenges to help SMEs greening their operations?
• How do we support value chain financing and access to finances for resource and energy efficient technologies in SMEs?
• What measures can develop a set of financial products and services for sustainable consumption and production in Asia?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed in the “enabling access to finance session”. It will offer key-notes from business and finance institutions, which are addressing these problems as their daily business, and a representative from the SWITCH-Asia programme will outline new ideas on how to support this process in Asia. The session will include interactive plenary discussions and seek to collect a set of recommendations for our future actions in supporting the Greening of SMEs.
